Exploring Photographic Screenprinting with Plant-Based Inks: Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum Salicaria)

This collaboration explores the potential of bio-based inks created from plants and their use in photographic screenprinting. For this project, handcrafted ink was made from the Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum Salicaria), a plant known for its rich pigment. Working with this plant into a sustainable ink allowed for a unique exploration of the intersections between nature, art, and printmaking.

The plant-based ink was used in photographic screenprinting to create a unique series of prints. The plant was sourced through the biological nursey Cruydt Hoeck, and grown at Pluk Den Haag as part of the Garden of Colors, which was initiated by Greta Desirèe Facchinato and supported by a dedicated group of volunteers.

The plant photograph (slide 2) was taken by photographer Dirk-Jan Visser, who collaborated in this experiment as part of The Ink Project and supported by Stimuleringsfonds.
