Biography
Greta Desirèe Facchinato (IT/LU) is a multidisciplinary artist and designer whose practice bridges art, ecology, and research. Living between The Netherlands and Italy, she holds a Master’s in Artistic Research from the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK), and a Bachelor’s in Visual and Performance Arts, specializing in sculpture, from the Academy of Fine Arts Venice.
Growing up in northern Italy, Greta developed a profound connection to the land. Her father, an agronomist, introduced her to the world of plants, while her mother inspired her sensitivity to the enchantment of the natural world. These early influences nurtured her deep respect for ecological thinking and the principle of interconnection between all forms of life, which now lies at the core of her work.
Greta’s artistic journey began with sculpture, working with clay, wood, wax, marble and metals, and expanded to include land art. Early training in dance and performance art enriched her understanding of the body and movement as mediums. Over the years, she has embraced sound, installation, textiles, graphic design, illustration, writing, and independent publishing. Throughout, drawing has remained a constant—a foundational practice for exploration and expression. Collaboration and multidisciplinary approaches are central to her process, allowing her to weave knowledge from diverse fields into her projects.
Since launching Color is Alive in 2021, Greta has been researching how natural color and bio-based ink-making can reshape our relationship with materials and the environment. This project has grown into a larger exploration of how creative gestures can reflect ecological awareness and interconnectedness. Her practice treats materials like ink as living matter, fostering reciprocal relationships and turning art into a practice of care and attentiveness.

My approach
Foraging for plants and material research are integral to my creative process. Each project emerges through a dialogue with the environment, honoring the stories of places, lives, and ecosystems. I believe embracing ecological practices means respecting and caring for what surrounds us.
Themes of interconnectedness and reciprocity are explored through sensorial experience, inviting reflection and fostering awareness. Projects often examine the dynamic relationship between interiority and exteriority, drawing inspiration from daily life, gestures, and material interactions.
My work is as poetic as it is grounded, driven by the belief that art is a means of fostering ecological thinking and reciprocal relationships. It creates spaces for reflection, knowledge-sharing, and dialogue, inspiring others to embrace sustainable ways of creating and being.
