Fleshquake - Publication

(2020)

Fleshquake is a multidisciplinary research project exploring freedom of movement, beauty idealizations, and critical societal norms. It challenges Western notions of beauty, normality, and decency through the perspectives of its performers: Saskia Wieser, Federica Dalla Pozza, and Alkis Barbas. The project includes a video work and a self-published book that delves deeper into these themes, presenting reflections from the performers alongside the creative process.

Greta Desirèe Facchinato and Raquel Sánchez Gálvez developed the project in collaboration with Silvia Sandri (costume design), Valentino Russo (sound composition and video editing), Alberto Omiste (photography direction), and the performers. Costumes were crafted from biodegradable materials like agar-agar, mimicking body implants to critique standardized perfection and notions of the “plastic body.”
